Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
Last Sunday was a historic day for our church, the West Henrietta Baptist Church. Your Pastor was installed. Lest we miss the significance of the day, allow me to point out that the installation was the last step in the Call Process of your pastor. It was an occasion to welcome me into the community with a festive worship service celebration. It was a time to solemnize the Covenant made between pastor and congregation. It’s like saying, following a period of courtship between the new pastor and congregation, there was an engagement and the marriage ceremony was held last Sunday. To God be the glory!
I want to register my gratitude to all the members of our church for your love, generosity and presence at the events last Sunday, and especially to the Pastoral Search Committee for their assiduous and faithful work behind the scenes to make my Installation Service the success it has been. They went beyond and above the call of duty, and I am deeply touched.
I trust that we are all energized and excited about our partnership and what the future holds for us. I believe that God has blessed this covenant relationship, and I rely on the power of God’s love and grace to make us truly the “body of Christ.” As the body of Christ, we ought to become: 1) the hands to do Christ’s work; 2) the feet to run Christ’s errands; 3) the mouth to speak for Christ; and 4) an instrument of reconciliation to bring Christ to the world.
I look forward to presiding over the landmarks moment of the life of the community -- baptisms, weddings, and unfortunately funerals. I look forward to you serving alongside me to make a difference. Let us commit ourselves to evangelism and mission; making known through word and deed the love of God and the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord. Simply put, you can make a great contribution by encouraging one person or one family each week to be your guest at church. Pray that God will equip and strengthen you if this does not come naturally for you.
Finally, I charge you with these words: “Yet I have made myself a servant unto all, that I might gain the more” (1 Corinthians 9: 19 KIV), and your prayer be “Lord, lay some soul upon my heart and love that soul through me; and may I ever do my part to win that soul for you.”
